Chair Back Stretch
The best part of this stretch is you don't have to break out your yoga mat, headband, or your old VHS exercise tapes. It can easily be done in between chores at the house, and all you need is the back of a chair. Another reason we love this stretch is that you get to stretch the back of your thighs and your low back at the same time. This great alternative to the traditional bend over and touch your toes stretch puts less stress on your back and is easier to do for most people.
Locate a chair that is hip height or a little taller. Stand up straight with a slight knee bend and your arms above your head. Begin the stretch by bending at the waist while keeping your feet flat on the ground, back straight, and arms above the head. Keep bending until your hands come in contact with the chair. Ideally, you are able to get to the 90 degree position shown in the picture. For a deeper stretch, continuing bending with a straight back past 90 degrees while keeping your hands on the chair. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds. Slowly relax and repeat 2 more times.
