Sitting Spine Twist

Sitting Spine Twist

Spine twists activate back muscles that can get stiff from inactivity and promote proper blood flow to the back itself and the rest of the body. When performed properly, spine twists are completed with the chest forward, back straight, and shoulders back to get the best stretch. This should also prompt correct posture after the exercise since you probably took note of your posture changes from your resting position till the beginning motion. Try to keep that upright position if you plan to remain seated after the exercise.

Instructions:

Sit up straight with your feet on the floor. Rotate your entire upper body one direction while keeping everything from the waist down stationary. After you have rotated to the extent your body allows while keeping proper form, grab hold of an edge of the counter or couch near you. Slowly pull yourself into a further stretch. Try to stay in a mild discomfort position for 20 seconds to achieve the best stretch. Relax and repeat for the other direction.
